Expecting! When Joy Bubbles Over Into Awkwardness

I am the lucky Momma of two little boys, ages (almost) 3 and 1 ½. When we found out we were expecting our second, we were so ecstatic!  After confirming with the doctor following our positive e.p.t™ test, we told our family. It was so fun seeing their expressions. Some were surprised because of the closeness in age, but they knew how thrilled we were and that surprise was always followed by big happiness. I have to admit, the shock value kind of added to the excitement of telling people!

We waited about 7 weeks after getting our positive e.p.t™ test to tell the rest of the world. You know how there are different “rings” of people when it comes to how and when you tell them you are expecting? The first ring is immediate family members, the second is besties and relatives, and the third is the rest of your friends and Facebook? At least that’s how it went for us. When we got to that third ring, after hearing their excitement, it was quickly followed by the same question that 90% of those people asked. There was no harm meant when it was said, of course. In fact, it usually just bubbled out of people with their joy. The question, in some form or another was, “so…are you hoping it’s a GIRL?!!!”

I always thought that was an odd question. I mean, I know there is a 50/50 chance of boy vs. girl, but it just seemed slightly barbaric for a first question. Here we were with the most awesome little boy. Okay, I know everyone thinks that of their own kid….but seriously. :-)

Fast forward to the now, and we are the proud parents of the two most amazing boys in the world. They are crazy, wild, and LOUD, and yet they have the softest, sweetest side. That always threw me off as am Mom of boys and yet I find it to be one of my favorite things. They love to be wild and crazy, and turn everything into a sword/bat/drumstick.  Yet, when they are sweet, they are so, so sweet. Like the kind of sweet that makes my heart melt into a puddle.

So, here I am today, with the best kids in the world :-) , aged almost-3 and 1 ½ AND with a little bundle on the way!  Can you guess what question was again asked by 90% of “3rd ring people” after telling them our awesome news? Yup, you guessed it!…“Soooo, are you hoping for a girl??” I’ll let you all in on a little secret…

Since the day I got a positive e.p.t™, I prayed for the same thing with this pregnancy that I prayed for with my first son, and my second – that we would be blessed with a healthy baby. This is my #momentoftruth

The makers of the original home pregnancy test, e.p.t™,  will be celebrating its 40th anniversary.  To celebrate this milestone, e.p.t™ is exploring the emotional journey that woman experience as they wait to find out if they are pregnant – and how it has changed over the years.

This sweet video shows one pregnancy story’s moment of truth:

In the days before home pregnancy testing, most women (82 percent) would make appointments with their doctors to confirm the pregnancy – many (two-thirds) waiting up to eight weeks after suspecting they might be pregnant. Can you imagine waiting EIGHT weeks from the moment you suspected you may be pregnant until you were actually able to find out?  When you’re waiting for life-changing news, even a day or two can seem like forever.  But, today, approximately 8 out of 10 women first learned they were pregnant from a home pregnancy test, and nearly half said they took the test immediately after buying it.

e.p.t™ is encouraging all fellow moms to share your story.  Finding out you are pregnant is a moment you will never forget.  I shared my #momentoftruth and I encourage you do the same, using the hashtag.   Visit the e.p.t™ website  or Facebook page for more information.
