5 Simple Steps to a Healthier Home

By  |

Reducing the toxic load in our homes is something that’s really important to many of us. From reducing our environmental impact to limiting the amount of chemicals our families are exposed to, there are lots of great reasons to create a greener home.

But let’s be honest- it can also be really overwhelming! With so many articles and green products out there, it can be hard to wade through the mountains of information and actually make changes.

Well, I’m here to help! I’ve found five amazing products and simple steps to making your home greener and cleaner. 🙂

SOL Organics Bedding

I am obsessed with my SOL Organics bedding! It’s soo soft, comfortable, and stylish. It’s also Fair Trade Certified, 100% organic, non-GMO, and eco-friendly. Most bedding is full of chemicals, and we spend 1/3 of our lives in bed, so think about how many hours you could spend breathing in harmful chemicals! I love the line at SOL Organics because I know I’m sleeping in a clean, chemical-free bed.

Soy Candles

Another chemical laden product that we often have in our bedroom is candles. Candles smell amazing and add such a relaxing tone to a room, but often they are also filled with chemicals that are released into the air when they’re lit. Opt for soy candles or beeswax to avoid these toxins- I love SOL Aroma candles, which are soy and scented with essential oils.

Abegoo

Another way to “green-ify” your home is to reduce your waste. I personally used to go through so much plastic wrap and Ziploc bags, and I always felt guilty about it. Then I tried Abeego and am hooked! Abeego is a reusable beeswax wrap that replaces your plastic wrap and allows you to keep your produce fresh without adding more plastic into the environment. Oh, and it smells amazing. 🙂

Essential Oils

Essential oils have SO many amazing benefits and uses, and they’re the perfect way to replace chemical filled air fresheners. Use them to scent your home naturally, and enjoy their added emotional, mental, and physical benefits.

House Plants

Plants have been all the rage on Instagram for the last while, but #plantlife isn’t just a trend- it’s an awesome way to both beautify and purify your home naturally! Both plants and potting soil help to purify their air around them, and they’re an awesome way of combatting the chemical load in our homes. Particularly powerful purifies include Chrysanthemums, Spider Plants, Boston Ferns, Snake Plants, and Aloe Vera.

DIY Cleaning Products

What’s more eco (and budget!) friendly than making your own cleaning products! Swap out toxic cleaners with your own homemade products using natural ingredients like vinegar, essential oils, and baking soda. There are so many awesome recipes online, but I get most of my recipes from Hello Glow and Live Simply. I also love the My Lemon Crate subscription box, which I talked about in this post.
